How to repair broken eyeshadow, powder, & lipstick - Must know beauty fixes!

We have all been there ladies, that dreaded moment when you drop your favourite (and probably expensive) powder, blusher or eyeshadow and it shatters everywhere, it's the ultimate beauty disaster, you desperately try and scoop up the remaining little pieces of powder and though it's still usable (just) it creates a mess every time you use it. Well believe it or not there is actually a very simple way to repair it and I cant believe that I have only fairly recently discovered this.

All you have to do is smash it up even more, now I know that it sounds like it defies all logic but stay with me..

Once you have smashed the remaining pieces into a fine dust, all you need to do is grab a piece of toilet roll or a baby wipe and firmly press down on the powder and hey presto, it's gelled back together. I have taken some example photos below although there wasn't much to work with as I lost most of it down the sink. but you can see that once all it's all patted back together, while it doesn't look great but it wont budge and is completely usable again.

Here is another example with my beloved St Tropez matte bronzer which seems to have been discontinued (sob!), but at least I will get a bit more use out of it.

On to the next beauty fix.. Dried out Mascara
Thick gloppy mascara, I hate it when this happens, your favourite mascara starts to dry, thicken up and applies like road tar to your lashes .. never good unless you actually like the tarantula leg look! But fear not, you can make it last that little bit longer by doing two things...

Firstly, make sure that the top is screwed on tightly and immerse the mascara in a cup of hot water for about a minute, shake well and it will be like new as the hot water loosens and melts the mascara inside.

The second trick is to add a few drops of hot water into the mascara tube and shake well although this can sometimes thin it out a little so I wouldn't recommend doing this more than once.

And lastly .. broken lipstick!
This has only happened to me once I think, but it's just awful, when you drop and snap your favourite lipstick in two, but there is a very simple way of repairing it. All you need to do is grab a lighter or match and carefully warm the half of the lipstick that still remains inside the casing, what this does is melt the lipstick enough so that you can attach the other part and like magic it welds itself together. Then just stick it in the freezer for a few hours and your good to go!

  2. Thanks so much for sharing this tip! I'm super clumsy so I'm always dropping makeup and it inevitably shatters. I'll try this out next time instead of throwing it away.
